Metal Merchandise for Mini-Headbangers
Where and how exactly metal was created is unclear. But it is clear that the success of metal has not stopped since then. The music has its origins in blues and hard rock. But since the 1960s, the genre has developed steadily. Both in terms of content and style, there are so many different forms of music that it is impossible to list them all. The forefathers of the genre include Black Sabbath, whose sound paved the way for the darker genres such as death and black metal. Metal was already then a counter-movement to society. It was about attracting attention, teasing and shocking. Especially in Great Britain the Heavy Metal scene flourished. Bands like Iron Maiden, Saxon and Judas Priest led the genre in the 80s.
A new wave of Heavy Metal
In the following years metal music developed into countless styles. While bands like Motörhead were strongly influenced by blues and hard rock, at the same time bands like Slayer and Metallica founded Trash Metal, which was not only hard but also incredibly fast due to influences from punk music. Out of this developed genres like Speed Metal, Power Metal or Doom Metal. Metal has always been a music genre that took its influences from different genres.
At this time it also began that metal was no longer an underground phenomenon, but in a way arrived in the middle of society. Big names like Metallica, Deep Purple and Megadeath sold millions of records, won prizes and played concerts around the world.
At the beginning of the 2000s it became even more experimental. Bands like System of a Down started to use crossover elements and fancy vocal tracks to create completely new music. At the same time the music became even harder due to the Nu Metal movement and bands like Slipknot and Distrubed.
