Massachusetts has become the navel of the metalcore world within the last years. Some of the pioneer bands of the genre come from there. Among others Killswitch Engage, which are not only relevant for the American metal scene but also for fans around the world. 

The musicians got together there after their predecessor bands had disbanded and they were looking for new challenges. It was clear from the beginning that the new project would not be half-hearted and that they would bring in their full commitment, as some of them already knew each other from their music studies at one of the most renowned music universities in the country. So it was soon clear that their music should be sophisticated, but also stand out from the rest of the emerging metalcore bands of the late 90s. They finally found this unique selling point in singer Jesse Leach, who not only has an expressive stage performance but also an extraordinary voice. Worth knowing about the band: The band got its name from a X-Files episode.

Killswitch Engage - to the top of the metalcore

Killswitch Engage was able to profit from the production knowledge of her guitarist at an early stage. After his studies he already produced several metal albums and had enough contacts. So after the first album Roadrunner Records became aware of the band and offered them a contract. After some line-up changes the music became even more technically demanding in the following time, but without losing the old hardness. Legendary tours followed, among others with Slipknot, Slayer and Mastodon and the band managed to build and defend their reputation as the spearhead of the metalcore movement until today. For their third album the Americans were even awarded a gold record in their home country. A special moment was the return of founding member and vocalist Jesse Leach in 2012, when the band regained its old freshness piece by piece and has been unstoppable ever since.
